8 Amazing Minecraft Library Designs

There are so many different things to build in Minecraft and a library is great addition to any home or town. Libraries come in all shapes and forms and some things to consider are overall size, hallways, the number of floors, basements, and enchanting areas.

To save time, you should have a good idea of what you want to build before you get started. Also consider whether you want a separate library building, or if you want a library that is just an extension of your storage room or home.

Most libraries in Minecraft will have at least some of these key design elements:

  • Use of darker wooden tones and of course book shelf blocks.
  • Glowstone, often made to look like lamps by using fences and signs (more cozy than torches).
  • Indoor plants using leaves as hedges, or even entire trees as centerpieces.
  • Central atriums and/or hallways.
  • Use of wooden stairs to make benches and tables for “studying”.
  • Area for practical purposes (enchanting, brewing, etc).
  • Modern libraries will make extensive use of glass and white tones.
  • Multiple floors with balconies and walkways indoors.

This article will provide examples of libraries other players have built (survival and creative) in Minecraft, to provide you with inspiration for your own library.

1. Simple Wooden Library

This is a compact, mostly wooden library featuring two floors. Note the bridges and the central tree decoration. The use of glowstone on top of fences makes for a cozy lighting atmosphere. Downstairs, there are benches for people to “study”, hedges from leaves, and glowstone hanging from the ceiling.

2. Fancy Minecraft Library

For this design, a longer hallway is included with branches off to the sides containing bookcases. People can go off to the sides to “get their books”, then return to the beautiful middle area to go and read them. Each nook could have different uses, for example one branch can be for enchanting, or another for potion brewing.

Note again the use of glowstone lamps and multiple floors with balconies to increase that “cozy” atmosphere.

3. Library With Large Exterior

Here is an example of a large building which could be used to make a Minecraft library. This design follows that of many historic government buildings, almost resembling the Roman Pantheon or New York Stock Exchange with its columns and staircases in the front.

4. Tall Ceilings and Bookcases

A cool library design technique is to make a very large ceiling with rows of bookcases which do not reach that ceiling. This gives the impression of a very large building, and is a similar strategy to what most grocery stores use. Think of a grocery store where you can see the whole store while inside, but the aisles don’t necessarily go all the way to the ceiling.

5. Underground Cozy Library

This Minecraft library was built underground and features many of the common themes: glowstone lamps, rows of bookcases, use of wooden paneling, and columns. It looks like the library itself is just one floor, but you can see an area above ground which may be some living area. The use of stairs for benches and leaves for hedges adds to the cozy atmosphere of this cool library design.

6. Another Tall Minecraft Library Layout

Tall Minecraft Library

This library layout uses very tall bookcases that do reach the ceiling, along with apparent walkways which allow users access to those books at the varying heights. At the bottom of the library, there are tables with reading areas and glowstone lighting.

This design could benefit from darker wood tones, grass hedges, and perhaps even some fireplaces or use of water fountains.

7. Highschool Library Design

A more “real-life” take on a Minecraft library which resembles one you could find at a high school (or even a public library). The green carpet, white ceiling and support columns, boxy fluorescent lighting, and glass columns are what define this design. Note the lack of “medieval” elements such as wood, stone, and fireplaces.

8. Modern Minecraft Library

This is an example of a more modern library you could potentially find in a larger city. The design uses classic modern elements: white tones, large use of glass, boxy shapes, and so on. It also has multiple floors, with some floors having the entire wall as glass.
