10 Best Minecraft Fountain Design Ideas

10 Best Minecraft Fountain Design Ideas

Fountains are one of the most popular Minecraft building ideas and look nice almost anywhere, especially inside gardens and courtyards. Even though most water fountains can be built with simple materials like wood and stone, don’t be afraid to use more complex building blocks like quartz and glass.

To build a good Minecraft fountain, make sure you have an understanding of how water flows. If you don’t, read the water page on Minecraft Wiki for more information.

Fountain Building Tips

Here are some tips for building a better fountain in Minecraft:

  • Consider the best location of your fountain. Often fountains make really good centerpieces and can be built right in the middle of a garden, room, or courtyard.
  • If you add light emitting blocks like glowstone, your fountain will light up at night!
  • Multiple fountains in close proximity can look fantastic, depending on your build.
  • Fountains are usually easier to build on flat land. Try to terraform the land before starting your build.

Here are our top picks for the best Minecraft fountain designs to give you some inspiration!

1. Small Wooden Fountain

This Minecraft fountain is small and adds a lot of beauty as a decoration. It is built with simple materials, such as wood and leaves, so it would be easy to build on survival mode. With its small size, it could easily fit almost anywhere.

To build with leaf blocks on survival mode, the Silk Touch Enchantment is necessary. There is not that much water in this fountain (it could also be used as a well), so the water setup would be very easy.

2. Four Corner Fountains

Another simple fountain idea, but built with slightly more complicated materials. The construction is built with quartz, underwater lights, and a central beacon. There are four fountains (one on each corner) and bridges for crossing the water.

The beacon in the middle is a great tool for healing and buffing players that walk by. If you don’t have a beacon yet, make sure you read our Minecraft beacon building guide.

3. Modern Minecraft Fountain

Modern fountains in Minecraft use squares, rectangles, and long edges. They also usually are a bit taller than other fountains and are made with more neutral colors (white, grey, black). The fountain in this picture uses white wool, glass, stone, and glowstone but you could also use concrete.

A cool fountain idea could be to incorporate glass and maybe even a cool statue or sculpture!

4. Large Quartz Fountain

This Minecraft fountain design is made of quartz and is quite a bit larger (wider) than other designs. It’s not too hard to build, but you’ll have to carefully place the blocks to get the same pattern.

The fountain also uses some glowstone, which helps light up the fountain especially at nighttime.

5. Small Stone Fountain

A small, stone medieval fountain that will fit almost anywhere. The design is very compact, measuring just 3 by 5 blocks. This type of Minecraft fountain is simple to build on survival mode and would go great with other medieval architectures such as villages and castles.

Because of its small size, the pattern could easily be repeated along the wall of a hallway.

6. Tall Spiral

A more fancy Minecraft fountain idea that would be easier to build on creative building mode. Because of this design’s height and curves, it might be challenging to build on survival and could even be a fun survival Minecraft challenge.

Notice the use of obsidian, which adds a unique color but would be very annoying if you placed a block in the wrong spot. Obsidian takes a very long time to break, even with netherite tools!

7. Nether Themed

A unique idea for a fountain in Minecraft, this design uses a large square that is slightly elevated off the ground. On the square, there is a fountain the middle with some benches on the side. There are trees planted along the side, which adds some privacy to the fountain.

This design uses mainly materials found in the nether, like glowstone and nether bricks. Keeping with the nether theme, this would be a really nice spot to build a nether portal.

8. Small Quartz Fountain

A tiny fountain which has a simple design made out of quartz. The spout of the fountain is unique and uses upside-down quartz stairs for the corners.

The builder uses flowers around the fountain to add a bit more decoration and this type of fountain would make a nice addition to nearly any Minecraft garden build.

9. Tall and Compact

A tall fountain idea that is not too wide. It would look good in the front entrance to a large Minecraft home, especially if you use two or more of them.

The design makes use of stairs, slabs, and pillars. I think it would also look good if some light was added, like a lamp or glowstone blocks.

10. Large Multi-Tier Fountain

If you’re looking for a bigger Minecraft fountain design, this build might interest you. This fountain design is quite wide and has multiple tiers which makes it take up a lot more space. It would make a nice addition to nearly any Minecraft castle courtyard.

The builder for this fountain used a custom Minecraft texture pack, so it looks a little different than the default textures. You can’t see it very well in this photo, but there are also some glowstone lights under the water which makes the fountain light up in the dark.
