Fountains are one of the most popular Minecraft building ideas and look nice almost anywhere, especially inside gardens and courtyards. Even though most water fountains can be built with simple materials like wood and stone, don’t be afraid to use more complex building blocks like quartz and glass.

1. Small Wooden Fountain

This Minecraft fountain is small and adds a lot of beauty as a decoration. It is built with simple materials, such as wood and leaves, so it would be easy to build on survival mode. With its small size, it could easily fit almost anywhere.

To collect leaf blocks on survival mode, you will need shears or a tool with the Silk Touch enchantment. Shears are much cheaper, so start with those. There is not that much water in this fountain (it could also be used as a well), so the water setup would be very easy. The spout is just a waterlogged fence on top of the center post, and a lantern hangs from the roof on a chain.

2. Four Corner Fountains

Another simple fountain idea, but built with slightly more complicated materials. The construction is built with quartz and underwater lights, with a beacon standing on an island in the middle. The beacon in the middle is a great tool for buffing players that walk by. Keep in mind that the healing buff (Regeneration) only unlocks on a full 4-level pyramid. The pyramid doesn’t have to be one material, so this one switches between iron and gold blocks, and a light blue stained glass block on top of the beacon tints the beam to match the water. 3. Modern Minecraft Fountain

Modern fountains in Minecraft use squares, rectangles, and long edges. They also usually are a bit taller than other fountains and are made with more neutral colors (white, grey, black). The fountain in this picture is mostly white and gray concrete, with glass fins on the tall block in the middle. The sheet of water comes from a few source blocks in a trough on top of the tall block, with a raised edge on three sides so the water can only spill down the front. A lower beam over one end of the pool works the same way and drops a wider curtain of water, with sea lanterns under it so it glows at night. 4. Large Quartz Fountain

This Minecraft fountain design is made of quartz and is quite a bit larger (wider) than other designs. It’s not too hard to build, but you’ll have to carefully place the blocks to get the same pattern. The rims switch between quartz bricks and smooth quartz, and each tier spills into the one below through waterlogged stairs and slabs.

The fountain also uses some glowstone under the water, which helps light up the fountain especially at nighttime. A gold block sits near the top of the center column, and small spouts around the outer rim pour water back into the bottom basin.

5. Small Stone Fountain

A small, stone medieval fountain that will fit almost anywhere. The design is very compact and is built right into a wall, with the water pouring from an upside-down stair under a little stone hood. This type of Minecraft fountain is simple to build on survival mode and would go great with other medieval building styles such as villages and castles.

Because of its small size, the pattern could easily be repeated along the wall of a hallway. Some moss and vines around it make the stone look old, and a lantern on each side keeps it lit at night.

6. Tall Spiral

A more fancy Minecraft fountain idea that would be easier to build on creative building mode. Because of this design’s height and curves, it might be challenging to build on survival and could even be a fun survival Minecraft challenge.

The water runs down a quartz channel which wraps around the tower and steps down as it goes, so the water keeps moving all the way to the basin at the bottom. Purple stained glass windows with glowstone behind them make the tower glow at night.

Notice the use of obsidian, which adds a unique color but would be very annoying if you placed a block in the wrong spot. Obsidian can only be mined with a diamond or netherite pickaxe, and it takes a very long time to break, even with netherite tools!

7. Nether Fountain

A unique idea for a fountain in Minecraft, this design uses a large square that is slightly elevated off the ground. On the square, there is a fountain in the middle with some benches on the side. The benches have cushions on them, so you can actually sit down. There are trees planted along the side, which adds some privacy to the fountain. Huge crimson fungi work well as the trees here since they match the theme.

This design uses mainly materials found in the nether, like glowstone and nether bricks. Build it in the overworld though, since water can’t be placed in the nether. 8. Small Quartz Fountain

A tiny fountain which has a simple design made out of quartz. The spout of the fountain is unique and uses upside-down quartz stairs for the corners, and potted tulips sit on the corner blocks of the basin.

9. Tall and Compact

A tall fountain idea that is not too wide. It would look good in the front entrance to a large home from our list of Minecraft house ideas, especially if you use two or more of them.

The design makes use of stairs, slabs, and pillars. There is a glowstone block in the middle of each pillar, so the fountains light up at night. The water from the top lands on a quartz bowl halfway down and spills off its edge, which is what gives the fountain two levels.

10. Large Tiered Fountain

A cascade fountain is a staircase of water running down a hill into a pool. It takes up a lot of room, so it works best built into the side of a hill, and you’ll want to shape the slope first.

The whole cascade runs from one row of water source blocks in a pool at the top. Water flows across each step and falls to the next one, so you only need source blocks at the top and in the pool at the bottom. Put a wall on both sides of every step, or the water will spill off the edges.

12. Palace Fountain

If you have seen the Trevi Fountain in Rome, you will recognize this one. The fountain is built into the front of a palace, with a statue standing in a large space in the middle of the wall and water pouring down over a pile of rocks into a wide pool. The rocks are a mix of calcite, diorite, and stone with some moss blocks, which makes them look natural instead of blocky. Water source blocks sit on a few of the higher rocks and on a ledge in front of the statue, and the water finds its own way down to the pool. The pool is sunk a little into the ground, so the water sits just below the ground around it.

It’s a big build, but you could shrink it down to just the statue and the rocks for a smaller wall fountain.

13. Floating Island Fountain

A floating island fountain is a fun fantasy build for players who like to build big. The island hangs over a large round basin, with a small temple over a spring on top. Channels carry water from the spring to the edge of the island, where it pours off as waterfalls all the way down into the basin.

Water can fall any distance in Minecraft, so the height is only limited by how tall you want to build. Make sure the basin is wide enough to catch every waterfall, or you will end up with water all over the ground.

Chains hang from the bottom of the island down to pillars in the basin, and a couple of smaller islands float nearby. How to Build a Better Fountain

Fountains make really good centerpieces, so think about where yours will go. They can be built right in the middle of a garden, room, or courtyard, and a few fountains close together can look fantastic. On flat ground, water only flows 7 blocks away from its source block, so plan your basin so the water stops where you want it to. For a long channel or a waterfall, drop the water down a block every few blocks. Each time water falls, it spreads out again when it lands.

Stairs, slabs, walls, and fences can all hold water. Placing water into them is an easy way to make small spouts and edges without extra blocks sticking out, and the water only comes out of their open sides. In Bedrock Edition almost any block which isn’t a full cube can hold water, but only some of them keep it from leaking out of the solid side (the waterlogging page on Minecraft Wiki lists which ones), so test your spout before building the rest of the fountain around it.
